    Default New depth finder, help.

I have decided to upgrade depth finders. I don't want to spend over $500 but I want a decent unit. I have been looking at the new Lowrance Mark 5x with down imaging that Bass Pro shops has. Can you provide me the pros/cons of down imaging. I need it mainly for locating structure in tributaries off Ohio River. It will be used for targeting crappie. The unit I got is a cheapo Lowrance that came stock on my boat. Thanks.

The 5X DSI would be a good unit, but boy I'd hate to think about doing without a GPS on the bow. Once you find a spot, you can come back to it with the GPS and hold on it if the wind moves you off.

The DSI should be helpful for what you are wanting, and you should be able to see fish holding on stuff.

You shoulda came with us the other day and you coulda checked out my down imaging ! Still can, as soon as we get rid of some ice ! I just heard of the graph you mentioned and I think for the money it is probably a good one although i have not seen that model in action.
