I been told the same thing, only a couple companies making them and putting different names on them, but it seems like people get different results out of the same thing, but I also would buy a new one to match it up with.

This is interesting to me catfan as I have really had good luck with delco....(mind you the last delco's I bought were in '01 and they lasted 9 years with an onboard charger)...
This info may keep me from buying delco again...
Do you have a link or something where you found this info...??

Got a couple of NAPA group 31's for my trolling motor. So far so good.

I used to work in battery testing and evaluation and still get a few trade publications, and I remember it when it happened, since Indiana was pretty well the home of Delco-Remy and later Delphi. I found another reference that said Delphi sold their battery business to Johnson Control in 04 instead of 06 here Delco Remy Division - History, which is an interesting read, but Wikipedia says 2006. Delco, Everstart, Interstate, Motorcraft, Duralast from Autozone, Energizer from Sam's and Optima are all made by JC. Delco has marketed a Professional series of batteries, but I don't know who makes them. They don't publish specs and they are very hard to find.
Battery manufacturing is a nightmare of environmental regulation and high shipping costs, so there has been a bunch of consolidation in the last 10years.
IMO, there's not enough difference to pay attention to between the Johnson Controls, Exide and Deka/East Penn batteries. Buy whichever you can get with the best customer service in case you have a warranty issue and keep them charged all the time and you will typically get good life out of them. I buy only the Everstarts even though they don't have much warranty anymore. The price is too good and I get 5-6 years out of a set. If you got 9 years out of a set, that means you take care of them and should have good luck with most any battery.
Trojan and Rolls make a better quality battery IMO, but you pay for it.
Cabela's AGMs are hard to pass up if you fish a lot and have one close.
I like you went through the battery delema, I called, talked to several people and they all came up with the same suggestion, get the best you can afford eaven if you cant afford it, save and wait till you can, you will be glad, the 31 class seems to be the choice of all, so that's what I went with. and I am glad, can run 9hrs. in a bass tracker. I run the trolling motor 90 percent of the time I am fishing and the batteries are holding up well so far.
I am not going to endorse any certain brand, I think they are mostly the same battery as stated before. just get the 31 class and you should be fine, good luck and fish till they quit.
