Not really. The HB is easier to navigate thru the features. But I have had the HB 3 years.

The only problem I had with the gps was a loss of 3d when I got close to a high bank lined with trees and houses and boat docks. I have the internal gps. Don't know how the external antenna would respond. For 200 bucks, I want find out either.

The 2d sonar is excellent. The Lowrance insight maps are fair.

I was able to load previous created waypoint files directly to the HDS8 from the SD card.

I sure like this feature. I can add or delete waypoints, tracks, trails, routes to the unit without a PC.
Does this mean your boat still indicates what direction it is going even at .2mph...??

yep. I read the book after pushing buttons.

And also there is no donut and the direction icon seemed to be correct at the .2mph speed.

Can your experience in this issue offer some insight as to how (or what technology) allows the lowrance unit to be able to indicate the directional icon to be displayed below .5mph...

I'm trying (not so patiently) to wrap my head around why it's such a difficult HB issue to change....

Because it is not one of their priorities, and bass guys don't need it

I agree that it seems obvious that HB's target market is the bass fisherman...and bass fishermen do not fish at less than .5mph...

My question is about the actual technology (hardware or software) than allows lowrance and garmin (and probably others) to accurately shows the directional icon below .5mph...

Is this technology that hard or expensive to incorporate into the HB units...??

I am not privy to this info, but my scientific guess would be program algorithms based on last known position, direction, and speed. You can make a lots of programmable predictions based on this known data.

    Hmmm...interesting....

We have at last count 12,148 registered used at CC....

If roughly 1/2 of those users are HB owners and 1/2 of those are HB GPS users...lets see.. that's appoximately 3000 HB GPS owners....

Oh, well...I guess 3000 voices aren't near enough for HB to listen to us measly crappie fishermen....
