Default Side Image Depth Finder Questions...

I am thinking about getting a SI depth finder. What is the best bang for the buck? Are there some older model humminbirds that are a little lower in price? If so are there any downfalls to them?

I have been looking at the 798c SI and the 898c SI.

    Thanks for the help.

I had a 797 and I liked it alot but the sceen was almost useless with the SI. I just bought Canepoles 997 and I can really see what I am looking at alot better,

I currently run the 798 SI and it has been hands down the most helpful piece of equipment I have purchased. With that said when I got mine the 898 didnt exist yet. If I had the choice would rather have the bigger screen but am more than happy with my unit. Saved the day fishing several times. Good Luck

Skip the 797 and 798. 5" screen just ain't enough. Current production, 898 is miniumum I'd go with. Value can be had in the 997 as a used unit to save some bucks, get the big screen and still have all the current functionality including down imaging, but you'll give up the ethernet port/video out for future expansion options when they become available. No biggee to me though.

Thanks for the help fellas.... Is there a way you can move the depth finder from the steering console to the front of the boat? I assume if you ran two sets of wires and have two mounting brackets this could be done easily. Anyone tried it? What would be the best way to do that...

Cabela's has the 997C on sale for $1349.99. It is being replaced by the 998C.

I’ve heard from several who do this with the RAM or Johnny Ray mounts. That way all you have to do is unplug the 898 and pop the mount off one location than install it on the bow mount and connect the wires.

I ran console and bow mounts for my 788 before I added the 998. It worked very well.
