a co-worker/friend went out fishing early saturday morning and OMG it was super foggy and after we launched and got like 50 yards from the boat ramp if it wasnt for the GPS we wouldnt have gotten very far so now im looking for a GPS unit for my boat and my buddy said he his is a lowrance HDS-5M and so im looking for a good brand and one that is going to be good and accurate but im not wanting to spend an arm and leg but im wanting a good unit and would be willing to spend 500.00-700.00 on a good GPS and if possible i would kinda like to work in a fish finder in there some where

Don't overlook getting an inexpensive handheld unit such as a Garmin Etrex. That way if you are with someone else you can both GPS good spots as you find them and you will have a GPS for hunting also.
Still would be nice to have one built into your graph too.

Get a Garmin 76 type, said to be waterproof and floats tho I haven't put either of mine in the water. I too like being able to carry my WP's on Scottv and Lunkers boats whenever I go with them.

If you go with a depth finder with gps decide whether it's gonna be a Lowrance, Eagle, Hummingbird, Garmin, etc. brand and start researching. Youll find the one in your price range. Also, remember lake maps is an extra buy if youre getting the chip. I paid $100 for my chip but have no regrets.![]()

Josh, Lowrance has free lake maps of several Oklahoma lakes that can be D/L'd off Lowrances website onto an SD card that you can stick into your unit. I bought a used Lowrance, LMS 520 which is now around 3-4 years old. It has GPS and Sonar along with a color screen. I've scored the free maps I thought I might use from Lowrance which seem to be fairly accurate for the most part. You should be able to find a comparable unit new in the 5-6 bills range. There are so many different units out there these days, keep taking in advice and make your call. You might consider jumping up a few bucks and get into a unit with SI. PM me if you have any questions.
