water getting inside their Lowrance 520C. I was cleaning out the boat and when I was wiping down the Lowrance I heard water splashing inside it

from skeetbum on another thread. May not apply to you, but then again, it might.
bought a Lowrance 527 for the console a while back and like it fine. Paid a good chunk for it and read all I can find about the issues on customer service I can find. One thing I will bring up that may change someones way of doing things is storage. The days of strap it on the boat and forget it are gone. These new units are temperature sensitive, no matter the mfg. They are designed to withstand temps up to about 130degrees. Storing your boat under cover or lettting it bake in the sun day after day will raise those internal temps way beyond that. I know that this only applies to some, but think about it. Temps rise, pressure has to go somewhere, end of a seal somewhere. All I'm saying is that with this in mind would you as a mfg continually replace units that folks never read the manual or do any research on and damage the units? I would have a problem with it. Units should be built to take a reasonable amount of punishment, thats a given. In my opinion some of what I have read about should have been addressed better by the mfg. When I bought my unit it was already out of production, so if I have any issues I'll probably have to get out the checkbook. I have a bird on the front, a 565, and the 527 on the console, and both of them come off the boat and inside the a/c til next trip. So far, so good. Sorry to hear of this issue at all. Most of us don't fish much and need our gear bought with hard earned bucks to die of old age, not shoddy design.
I and it may have had a little water on it but not that much. More condensation in the compartment than direct water contact. The 997 comes off the boat after each trip though. I took the 520 off the boat and didn't check to see if it was still working, hope it is but I haven't used it in 3 or 4 weeks due to it's crank pulling time now
