    Default Humminbird 788 issue

Have a problem, and with the holiday, don't think customer support will be available until tuesday. Fishing today, I tried to switch to my map view, only to find that it was nowhere to be found! I have an external antenna and a premium '09 card. I tried rebooting the unit, restored to default settings. Still couldn't pull up my map views. Even with the card out, I have no unimap. There no longer is a map tab in the menu. It's like I have no GPS at all. Any ideas guys?

I would check the connection on your GPS antenna. Just a thought.

I have a 788 with an internal antenna. If I turn it on in the garage I get the message no GPS signal. If you are not getting a message I doubt that it is an antenna problem.

If you haven't updated your unit with the latest software update you might try that. Be sure to restore system defaults before you do. The latest version of the software is 4.780.

It has been updated, and I have only had it about 6 months. Not only do I not get a signal, but it's like mapping and gps do not exist in the unit any longer.

Dont know about the 788 but on the 997 you can hide the map view. I would think if you are showing MPH, your gps is working. If you have a views menu make sure the chart view is set to visible.

No MPH, no anything GPS related, not even in the menu.

Restart you unit and on the start up screen, select System Status.

Then select Accessory Test. This will list the accessories connected to the unit. If you don't see GPS as connected, then you need to check the connections or try your unit with a different puck. You may have a bad antenna. If you have your GPS antenna connected to an interlink, be sure its showing as connected as well. If not, then connect the GPS antenna directly to the unit and see if it shows up (you will have to turn the unit off to do this).

To exit this screen, turn the unit off.

    Good Luck.

If you know someone close to you that has the same or a simular unit you can slide it on there mount and then you will be able to tell what your problem is. Customer Service will be open tomorrow.
