We lost the boat icon at .6mpg on the HB. The HDS just arrowed along.

The HB track on the screen looked like a knitting string with a little donut medallion attached to it.

HDS lost WAAS on several occasions (internal GPS antenna). billbob needs to mount the HDS and git it out of the floor.:p:p

    CP,

Curious to how the donut bugs you? Wondering what you are doing by looking at the charts while stationary.

I'm new with this SI & GPS technology, but let's say that I'm fishing on some laydowns. When I get in my spot, still use my markers and now also set the drift alarm. Typically, look to see what my GPS error is and then set the drift alarm a little above that.

When the alarm goes off, I use the trolling motor to get back close to the marker. Usually during all this, the fish finder is on either SI or DI/2D combination.

I know there are several techniques and I probably don't employ most of them, so wondering what you're doing where the donut bugs ya.

BTW, went to great pains to ensure that "Humminbird" was aligned out and square thinking that the antenna was a DF but have since learned that it only knows which way your pointing by comparing present position with past position.

    Wow!

The HB has 4 Hz external and the Low has a 1 hz internal and you have that score?

Or were you using the Low's optional 5 Hz external?

Or is this all related to the donut?

Just curious, I think both units are great but of course would be happy with more.

I sometimes "slow troll" at .3/.4mph, especially trolling shallow drops or brush. I do a lot of KY rigging too. At these speeds, HB pointer icon turns into a circle (indicating no movement).
Between .5/.6 mph, the HB jumps between the donut and the boat icon. This gives a lot of yes-no-yes-no-yes-no's.
I quit using the HB gps for trolling and use it as the goto gps when I move to another distant location.

When I tried this with the HDS, it hung in there at the lower speeds. This is not because of the actual physical accuracy, but because of programmed anticipatory algorithms.

If you loose your direction arrow, screen refresh rate don't amount to hill of beans.

The donut is just a nuisance.

I'm still confused why you need the chart went trolling, but will take your word for it that you need it.

When I'm trolling up and down a stump field, I've popped over to the chart to see that the breadcrumbs have shown me to have covered the area like I want, but haven't left it on chart.

But I've just started using this unit, so I may see the need once I get a few more hours on it.

Who in the heck is Algorithem and who invited them on the trip? I thought it was just you and Billbob. Or was she a hold over from the VFW run the night before?

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.

Don't need chart. Just moving from waypoint to waypoint which are 50-100 ft apart in open water with a little wind. Direction arrow kinda helps. Zoomed in, so chart doesn't matter.
