Try checking the connection on your battery or have your battery checked. Mine done the same thing and I had a loose connection at the battery.

When you were looking at the 997 unit in the demo was it still connected on the boat?

sorry greg ben out of town.no i took it off .could not get it to work at all while still hooked up.

I would look at the power wires for loose or corroded connections.
