No need to ever use the 83Hz setting if you not going any deeper than 30ft IMO. Stay with the 200. Heck for that matter you can shoot 75ft with the 200 and still do grerat. I never take mine out of 200Hz.

I have read the other post about the HDS units and how to set the transducer. My problem is I can only get a good sonar pic when I go to the 200 setting. On 83 I get junk. I am mainly fishing in water from 4-30 feet. Can you guys tell me what settings you are using to get the best pic on the 83 transducer setting? THANKS! And by the way the SI part of it is awesome!!!!

The only way to have a good fishing spot is to make it yourself!
I agree using 83 isnt the best for shallow water, it is a wide beam but it also is for deeper water 200 is good for most any inland lake
thanks guys...I was wanting to use the 83 because it was a wider band, but no matter what I did on the settings I could not get it to clear up, just lots of colors with no white space, fish, or structure...guess I will have to stick to the narrow cone.
Set ping speed at 18. 200 on transducer and set on shallow water use.
First liar never has a chance!
