Processor speed is probably the culprit. Mine 997 does this and so does my Garmin big screen. Lots of pixels have to be painted in such a short time on the larger screens while zoomed in. The processor is just not fast enough to process all the details in real time, thus causing the lag.

My handheld Garmin doesn't have the problem as it has ample time to process the pixels.
Oh well,,such is life I guess. I can live with it,but was just wondering if everyones did the same thing
