Help with Down Imaging

The other day I asked for some help in figuring out how to download the new software from HB site on Down Imaging. Someone told me how to do it and it went fine.

I downloaded the software to my desktop, got an SD card and saved it to my SD card. Took the card, put it in my 798SI and it said, "overwrite the 3."whatever" version with the new 4.78 software?"

I hit yes, it then asked me to confirm, I obliged.

It said loading new software or something (took about 4 seconds) and then bam, it was done. All good right? No no no, ya see, thats for NORMAL people. OTHER people would have been finished and enjoying their new software at this point. Not me! I gotta have a problem!

Problem is nothing's changed. Or at least so little has changed I can't tell a damn things different. I CERTAINLY dont have ANY new views (screens), the GPS STILL sucks, and nowhere on this thing does it even mention ANYTHING about down imaging, much less show a screen with down imaging.

It is at times like these in MY life, where I usually realize that MY unit is broken and must be sent off for 6 to 8 months for repair, or that I have actually downloaded a porno virus instead of down imaging. BUT, I thought I would at lease ASK if someone could tell me if I was doing something wrong.

Also, do you have to leave the SD card in forever or once it's downloaded can I remove it? FYI, I tried it both ways. What gets me is that if I leave it in, EACH time I turn it on it asks me if I want to replace the old software with the new one. If I take it out and then reinsert it, it still asks me. So apparently its not taking the new software.

I really dont want to take a baseball bat to this high$$ unit, but it wouldnt be the first time:D

It sounds like you did everything you were supposed to, but you dint/t mention one very important thing....Did you reset your unit back to the Factory default settings before you tried to install the update?. That is a "Must" or it can really screw things up...If you did, I would call H-Bird...If you didn't same answer...call H-Bird. Their customer service has been very courteous and helpful to me in the past. I installed the update on mine last week and used it yesterday for the first time...Many more screens are available and I really like the down imaging.

I did reset the settings. The original guy that helped me on here had told me that was a must.

Crappiehunter68 has offered to let me call him after work and walk me thru it too, thanks bro!

BUT! I THINK I figured out my problem. I called HB cust service and you are right, they were very nice and this is what they told me.

She said that the 2nd prompt that I thought was asking me to CONFIRM the change, was actually asking me if I wanted to ABORT the change.

DOH!:o

Thats why the unit never recognized the change taking place. I will try again when I get home, if that dont work, Im callin my brother crappie hunter68,. :D

This is why you should get the PC connect cable and just upgrade via your PC, I think it's alot easier. Plus you can save your waypoints to your hard drive, and use Google Earth to view all your waypoints, JMHAO :D

yes thast is kind of a trick question. One other thing do not inseert the update card until after you have turned on the unit & let it get thru its start up process. this is a preferred method over putting card in slot then turning unit on--since the last major update.....

I am going to download mine when weather gets warmer.
Is this correct procedure?
Turn on unit
Go to and set to Factory default settings
insert SD download card and it will auto download?
Anything else?
