    Default First experience with HB Customer Service


    Most of you know I received my 1197cSI 1-06-10...

    Well, I went right to work installing the transducer, GPS antenae, and all the cabling..,

    I was interested in having a deployable transducer bracket...similar to the one that Cane Pole uses on the front of his boat....but I couldn't seem to come up with an old trolling motor bracket....so I built my own....I'll have pics later.....

    It took me about 2 weeks to build a deployable bracket for the transducer and get every thing installed ready for the head unit....

    So I finally get ready to install the head unit and notice.....OH SH##!!...the front black plastic bezel is cracked right above the screen.....and, I mean it's cracked bad enough that I can see the edge of the screen's glass thru the crack in the bezel......

    Now, here I have a brand new $2500 unit and I'm gonna have to send it in to get repaired.....bummer....

    So, I called HB CS this morning and told the girl in CS about my plight......

    She asked if it could be sent in for repair ...that the service department could probably fix it....

    I told her ...sure...but I had 1 concern.....I had went to a great deal of talking to my customer service agent at Marine Electronics & Fishing Equipment, Buy Humminbird, Raymarine & Garmin Fishfinders, Handheld GPS, Chartplotters, Radios, Radars & Autopilots Online to make sure I had purchased and received a 2010 model 1197...and that I was concerned about sending the unit in to be repaired...I might not get the same unit back or perhaps HB might send me an older unit as replacement....

    She said she would put a note with my customer service number to try and make sure that I would, either, get the same unit back or a comparable 2010 model.....

    Overall, so far, I'm very pleased with the HB CS as the girl was very friendly and willing to help in any way that she could....

    We'll see what unit actually shows back up at my door......

    UPDATE ......

    Sent the unit to HB for repairs Monday 1-25-10.....

    Unit repaired and sitting on my doorstep Monday 2-1-10...

    Exact same 2010 model unit I had ordered from J and H Products...just with a new front .....

    Thanks Hummingbird....I now have first hand experience with HB customer service and I can truthfully say ...

    I am a very satisfied HB customer....!!

    That's good to hear, glad they did you right. I think a lot of people, me included, are skeptical of spending that kind of money not knowing what will happen if they experience any problems with the unit. That should help ease any buyer beware reservations a bit.

    HB even put the new 4.750 update on the unit for me...

    I'm impressed with HB Customer Service.....!!

    They would have had to give me a HOLE NEW UNIT!!! Know way I would have excepted a repair on this unit. If I just bought it and it came in busted up like that. I would have got a new unit or a refund. That bird was smashed or dropped or crushed to have damage like that. Know way would I spend $2500.00+ on a electronic device and keep it knowing that it could have other issues later from this damage. A cracked board may work fine for 2 or 3 years then stop working or act up. HB has very good CS I know but thats just me. Good luck with the 1197

    he said the bezel was cracked, that doesnt effect performance of a unit, you know how ruff shipping can be sometimes, if everything was always perfect we wouldnt need a fishfinder they would just jump in the boat

    Let me just clarify something...and this is exactly what I told the CS girl at HB....

    I do not know exactly when the front bezel (plastic face) of the unit was cracked......

    I, briefly looked at the unit when I received it...I did not notice the crack......then put it back in the box and started working on building the deployment bracket and running wires, GPS, transducer, etc....

    When I got ready to mount the head unit... 2 weeks later....I took the head unit out of the box and noticed the bezel cracked....

    It almost looks like one of the screws that holds the 2 halfs of the unit together may have been tightened too much during manufacturing..."pulling" the face in too hard....and the temp change from the delivery truck into my heated garage may have caused the unit to flex...causing the crack.....I just really don't know....

    Beings as I had only had the unit for 2 weeks...the girl at HB said she was going to note the unit as damaged in shipping....
