Battery voltage is one of the outputs that you can choose to be displayed your screen. In the screen capture below (from my 997), you see my battery voltage at 13.2 V.

Go to your setup tab. scroll down to Select Readouts. Over to readings panels. select voltages on 1 of 5 panels. I believe this to be correct.

    997 vs. 998:

The 998 has some hardware advances over the 997:

    -faster processor/new printed circuit board.
    -ethernet port (for future connectivity)
    -video out port

Casual users will notice few, if any performance differences between the two. The 998's hardware may support faster chart redraws, and will take advantage of future software enhancements, just as the "legacy" Humminbird products do (up to their individual hardware limits). The one thing that catches my eye about the 998 is the ethernet port. With the 1197, 998, and 898 all being ethernet-ready, I speculate (and this is PURE speculation) that we'll be seeing something new in the networking arena from Humminbird in the near future.

If you're a new 997 owner....congratulations! You've just undergone a major electronics upgrade in your boat, and you'll be amazed at how the 997 helps you identify structure, and then find and catch more fish!

When you are running your chart speed a setting 1, does this compress the image any? What ping speed do you use when recording at the lower speeds?

    I never tried this.
