Guess I'm going to ebay my HB's and Buy Lowrance now. Never thought I'd say that, as I've been an HB fan for years. Irritating that HB assumes that everyone has deep pockets.

I have considered that myself. It seems that their R&D department likes to jump the gun before they get their software perfected. As for Lowrance, I really like their new stuff but the waterproofing issues scare me greatly. Mabey I will go back to a rope marked at 5 foot intervals with a brick at the end.

And by the way, I am perfectly aware that technology changes on a minute by minute basis. I just cannot understand the GPS issues with the high priced HB units. I have a $1200 HB that I have to use a $100 Garmin handheld GPS unit with to be able to find my spots. You tell me how this is O.K.. Somebody missed something for sure..

Hate it that all units can't benefit from the upgrade, but I appreciate that I can upgrade mine without buying new hardware. Most other manufacturers offer new technology only through new model purchases.

+2; Also, for all the griping about HB GPS problems, I just don't have a problem, primarily because I don't slow troll/spider rig. If I just go to the spot and drop a buoy, I'm good to go, no problem finding the spot to begin with. While I wish it was perfect, I didn't buy a sidescan for the GPS. I'm just not a Lowrance fan.

Drop a bouy around here and you just as well set off a flare and wave everyone to what you are marking. As for the griping, I just feel that a product should do what you are told it will. It is a fact that my HB GPS is crap. I should not have to have a handheld to zero in on a spot. My HB will get me close within 100-200 feet but that is it.

if you do that you wont make enough to cover the cost of the Lowrance units ,then you will have to buy 600 dollars of stuff to get the side imaging and you will have to send it back when it fills up with water.they all have there problems but humminbird has work through most of there proplems and Lowrance is just starting.as far as the gps goes i dont have a problem finding my way points
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad

I hear you on the buoys; mine are painted black, but it can still be a problem. Hard to believe 100-200 feet is the best you can do; mine puts me within 5-10', every time. As far as I know, most of the complaints have been about the slow refresh rate, not the accuracy. I think there's something wrong with your particular unit, or something else.

Accuracy is not my complaint. If I mark something the GPS cooridinates are correct. It is getting back to what I mark. I may be in fact doing something wrong. All I know is that with my handheld I can go staight to the coordinates and not do circles trying to find them. It doen't take a whole lot to confuse me.lol..
