Thread: Low voltage question

Did you charge the batteries when you got them? Are all your connections clean and tight. How do you keep both batteries charged?

Definately have to keep the batteries charged with the HB units. Since i got mine i've had to charge mine twice as often as i used too. That low voltage sign is really annoying.

Deep cycle batteries should be recharged immediately after every use. They will last much longer if you do.

I have a on board system. I fully charge all batterys after use. Ill check my connections. Does the low volts dammage anything.

I use dielectric grease on all my fittings. This gives me a better connection and reduces corrosion. I like the clear best. Picked it up at an automotive like NAPA.

Your humminbird will shut down if it gets too low. Does it tell you what the voltage is when it does that? It may just be set too high.

Some newer outboards require a lot of CCA in a battery, and they can draw a smaller battery down enough during cranking to cause issues with electronics on the boat. Check the CCA rating of the battery and compare with what the outboard manual recommends.

I lowered the alarm setting to 11 volts and it quit going off. Ill check the CCA rating for my motor. Thanks for the help.
