I apologize for a possible duplication, cause I think I've seen this here before, but I can't find the thread.

Question: Is a Minn Kota MN220 with 10 amps per bank and a 4-6 hour recovery time over kill for a Tracker boat that gets fished 6-8 times a year. Yeah, I know - how hard is it fished, and in what kind of wind, are all variables. I guess I want it for the convenience of pluggin it in and walkin away from it till I fish next time, and a decent recovery time when I do go out for a three day trip.

My alternate choice is the MN210 5 amps per bank, 10-12 hour recovery. Difference in price is about $75.00.

I use a 2 bank 5 amp for TM batteries and batteries are always charged up by next morning.

I have been using a 3 bank (5 amps per bank) for several years. I can fish all day, plug it in, and its ready to go again in the morning.

i use a guest (4amps per bank)and it seams to do fine regular fishing,then i started trolling cranks using my trolling motor and my batteries wouldn`t be fully charged the next day,just a thought

I use 2 XPS - 2 bank 5/5 chargers from BPS for my 4 battery setup....they do fine for charging overnight....

If I'm not mistaken one of your questions was about a three day fishin trip where you wouldn't be able to have an "overnight charge" in between fishin trips.....

If you think that you would be in that situation, then the quicker recovery time might be more suitable.....

Some of the other guys are more versed in the numbers of amps vs recovery times vs wear on batteries.....

Does the quicker recovery time shorten batt life? I've always heard to slow charge deep cycles for max batt life. I use a 2 bank 5/5 for my TM batts, and waiting to see if start/livewell/electronics battery will stay alone or get tied in parallel to a brother. I'll install another 5/5 if that happens. Big electronics and livewells suck lots of amps, no?
