Default Having problems with Laminate baits

I started having problems with my baits today. Went out and tried some that I made. It is two color horizontal laminate. When I put one on a jig head, the bait would split at the dividing line of the two colors. I could then peel the bait completely apart no problem. It was still sticking but not by much. Looks as if I have a bonding issue. I have been using divider plated to shoot laminates. Been doing this a long time and never had this problem. I started using Pam or store brand Pam on the divider plate on my new baby shad molds to help with the first color and demolding half of the bait. Pam helps keep one side in while the others side comes right on out making it much quicker to take out half the bait, recover and shoot the other color. I am getting a layer of pam on the first color. Is it possible that the pam is creating a block that is not allowing the second color to bond? That is what I think is happening. Need opinions. Thanks.CF

Sounds like the Pam to me. Try cleaning the plate real good and see what happens. See if u can carefully remove the plate without them sticking to it. If it's not the Pam then cold cracks. But since u said you've never had a problem before I would stop using the Pam!

I think You fellas are right. I know as long as I shoot another color before the first color cures, it will bond. I think the pam was repelling the two plastics from bonding. I am going to try using vegetable oil on a round now and see if that will work. I use it when I do laminates on curltail grubs to help keep one side put when demolding. It has never given me any trouble and my son thinks the plastic will absorb vegy oil and allow a bond unlike the pam. If this does not work, I will alcohol clean everything again and just have to deal with the aggravation of the baits sticking to both sides and all falling out. Will post results.CF

okay guys there is a trick here we do use Pam but spray it on a paper towel and wipe it on lightly make sure that you clean the back side of the plate that you are going to use with either acetone or alcohol we were having the same problem and found out that it was a dirty side of the plate that you put up against a cavities so you have to make extra sure that you clean that surface try it and give it shot and get back to me and let me know what happen. Whatever you do do not put Pam on the back side of the plate if you face set up again sure cavities when you shoot they definitely will not stick together only use the Pam on the cavities . But put it on very little when I you she got through with a paper towel I went with a dry one in went over remember only on the cavities.

No joy. Checked baits this morning and there were a few that had bonded but the vast majority would still split apart. Looks like I will have to do this the hard way and tuck every bait back into its cavity. I would go twin injection buy don't like the idea of colors blending in the tails. any ideas on how to demold the baits faster would be much appreciated. It is a bears and has a big sprue which is not helping.CF

Just shot a batch and tucked the baits back into their cavities and shot the second color and just as I feared, every bait that the tail came out of the mold on when I shot the first color ended up warped or twisted and worthless. got to be a better way than this. Half the baits turned out bad. I wonder if I could use anise oil as a plate lube and not have the laminate separation issue. All the laminates seem to be bonding fine as long as I keep everything dry. I get better tail results with a plate lube but so far, laminate separation to go along with it. Need a good plate lube that does not act as a repellent. Any ideas or opinions would be much appreciated here. I'm stuck.CF

use the plastic for the oil, before its cooked its oily, a thin coat should allow it to bond and still act as a release from the plate. If your plastic is hot enough it will cook to make a nice bond
