    Default Dipping baits

How do You dip baits in large numbers? I see two obstacles. #1 is it takes a few seconds for the dipped plastic to cool enough to lay down. #2 the plastic in the pyrex is only warm enough for a couple minutes at most. How could I dip 20 or 30 baits in a setting? Or just get numbers higher than 5 or 6 baits? Thanks for any info.CF

I don't think you can dip numbers at a time. This is why large companies don't usually put eyes on their plastic baits. If anyone could come up with a methos it would be baitman.

I can't help you because I am new at plastics and only make baits for my self and my pastor. I am constantly reheating plastic in the microwave. Seems like I can only get four dips before I have to reheat the material. I have been cutting up old clear lures to heat in the microwave.

I may put eyes on ten or twelve and then prepare to dip them. I just dip one at a time and hang on a clip to cool then dip the next one while others are cooling. They take less than 7 seconds to cool.

you can do this with the Pyrex you can use a small hot plate to keep your plastic warm but I advised if you do this to get you a thermal meter most of the drop baits are individually made that's why me in Keith and many other guys on here make custom baits because it something that you cannot buy through a regular mail order or retailers or from other manufacturers that want to do large volumes I'm sure that the eyes that Keith in the have put on plastic baits are the highest quality is you will not get this performance from larger manufacturers like it has been mentioned above there are some ways to make baits and you can do this I used to take nails and cut their heads off and put them into a piece of 4 x 4 2 x 4 and stick this into your plastic and pull it back out you can put maybe 20 or 30 nails in the wood after it cools for a few seconds you can go ahead and add head color then pull them off of the nail you can use the plastic bait the way they are or use a razor blade to cut the tail there are quite a few the guys now like myself are taking other plastic baits in dipping them in plastic such as we cut the tails off of other baits and dip them in hot plastic the one I posted yesterday is nothing but a trout worm dipped in plastic we do have trout worms available for people that want them to do this also there are many other plastic baits that we do carry that you can chop up and make drop baits out of on some of the baits you can make a clam out of thin plywood or any other what that you can lay your baits and then clamped them so you would have a role of them and dip them into the plastic so there are many different techniques you sometimes have to use your imagination and experiment a lot this is a good thing about making custom baits is you get to do a lot of fieldwork I'm sure that Keith in me and many others do a lot of experimenting to see what we can come up with it never a in two what you can do I've only been in plastics going on two years I mean with the injection molding but we've been messing around with plastics for many years I probably did not answer your question completely accurately but I'm sure that we will be getting more comments.

the harder your plastic the more you have to reheat. I dip 500-1000 a day plus making the bodies and other baits. I do all my baits one at a time, its the only way to get them consistent.I have my shop set up so at my dipping station I got my tv and computer so I can what it while I work and just keep going. I may dip 400 then take a break and do other things then come back to it. It takes time but there is just no way around it

OK thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it. That makes it pretty simple. Do you have problems with the clear plastic browning on you after many reheats?CF

just make sure if you're reheating of plastic to keep stirring or else it will burn and definitely turned darker depending on what you are doing with it clear be extra careful on reheat you can turn yellow in a matter of seconds just keep stirring every few seconds if you are using a microwave on high heat.

snake, I dipped some of those trout worms you sent me a long time ago and they looked pretty good. Sometimes I had trouble with my plastic being too hot but it worked out good. I never posted any of them back then. My how we think alike. I still have a few of those worms I want to try on some bream next year when they go on bed.
