As some of you know I have just started pouring my own baits. I think the 3 most important things to remember is

    1- action

    2- color

    3- size

anything other then that is just for looks. Just my thoughts.

I got my microwave and pyrex today. Will experiment a little tomorrow Bob. I am an eye man because I want my lures to imitate minnows who by the way have eyes also.

    Big fish eat little fish.

    Fish have eyes.

    Works for me. LOL

Whats more important to me than eyes on a bait....is the part that catches the fish.....thats right, the hook. I catch more fish using sickle hooks and I catch even more if those sickle hooks are red.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I fully understand Mike on what you are saying you're wanting something that looks natural to fish to feed.

I think its more what you have confidence in......I like 32nd weedless heads and pretty much stick to 2 diff color combos......and really kinda one to 2 "styles of jigs"......its all about what works for you....just like thos jigs Bob reproduced for me and posted.....they dont look like much, but I'll tell yea give me those over any store bought plastic with all the bells and wistles any day.....if it works go with it....

The thing that I have found is.....You can make a minnow bait look just exactly like a shad or any other type real minnow and the bass will love it and the crappie will not pay it much attention. But make it some bright wild un natural color and the crappie will nail it. I pull crank baits a lot and all summer long my best colors have been either pink or orange. Its the same way when I fish jigs.....something natural looking will not do as good with the crappie as a un natural bright color will. But I live in Mississippi and fish a lot of stained water so maybe that is why.

I think there are times that they absolutely make a difference. When vertical fishing over brush and the crappie are just sitting there looking at the bait I have found eyes make the difference. when long line trolling with a faster presentation it makes no difference at all with the faster presentation. I also like making my baits to be custom otherwise its no different then pulling them off the shelf at wal mart. With the baits the way I make them all I gotta do is put on a jig head. I dont coat mine most of the time but I will when trolling in muddy water to help with contrast.

you might find this interesting you guys I was fishing in the slough that the water was very muddy I was fishing chartreuse and also white with green I was not catching any fish at all so I made up a plastic bait you might say it looks like yellowy brown it was a killer in the muddy water I couldn't figure out why because it was the same jig but in a different color of this yellowy brown might say it look like Baby poop is the only way that I can describe this, color and of course if you made a bunch of to sell nobody would buy them of course they were the ugliest looking things that you ever seen what they definitely caught fish you are right Keith also G you are very good and you are also right.
