    Default Black v/s White

So the primary species in my area is the Black Crappie so that is all I have ever eaten. I fished a lake that had a small population of White Crappie this past weenend and I got my hands on a pansize White Crappie. I had heard that they taste so much better than Black Crappie so I was excited. Well I prepared the filets and did a side by side taste test. I was not impressed and prefer the Black over the White. The White had the constistency of catfish meat and tasted bland while the Black was tender and sweeter. Was this a fluke or is there that much differece in the meat? Also want to know what your preference is and why.

    Thanks

I can't say that I can tell the difference. I've never noticed that either variety tastes like catfish ..

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin' and hook up with them later.

I will say the "white" seem softer than "black", but then the water they are caught in may make a difference. Here in the north, after June all crappie get soft and very few people keep them after mid-June.

About the same , maybe blacks a little firmer meat IMO. Not enough difference to say there is one as far as taste or anything.

Hmmm...by the time I've fried a mess I don't usually remember which was black or white ? Interesting question though. Now you've got me wanting to see if I can tell a difference.
