I always use a jam cleat to secure the anchor line, as it can be quickly disengaged even if the line is under pressure, which would prevent me from taking it off a regular cleat. I also tie a float to the other end of the anchor line, so if I do have to jettison the anchor for any reason I can go back to the area and retrieve the whole assembly. The float only has to keep the end of the line afloat. I actually use an old fender for my float.
