    Default Camping question

From a Missourian. My wife and I plan to camp in the Hot Springs area sometime in early March. I know nothing about the camping choices in the area. I know that Lake Quachita has a few campgrounds and that there are several privately owned campgrounds in the Hot Springs area. We just want to get away from home, where it might be warmer, and enjoy the outdoors. We need a nice spot to accomodate a 30' fifth-wheel camper. Does anyone have any recommendations? We'll be there without a boat and could use a good suggestion for crappie fishing from the bank as well. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, from a fellow crappie fisherman.

Any of the four out of five diamond lakes around Hot Springs have nice campgrounds - Ouachita, Catherine, DeGray and Greeson. My recommendation is Kirby Landing or Daisy State Park on Greeson. If the water has warmed by then there will be crappie moving in to fan beds around the bank cover.

    Hey RT,

You should hook up with Darryl. He has the boat, bait and fish. It is very nice to just pull up and get out of the truck, walk down and get in a boat and have someone put you on the fish. Then clean them for you and have them ready to cook.

    Try him out.

Can't beat ARK. State campgrounds for a good time. Just punch in ARK. State Campgrounds. I'v been visiting ARK. yearly for a cpl months in Feb/ Mar. for 10 years. I'm retired and camp around the country and find that ARK has the best state campgrounds in the country. Makes our's in WI look sick. All types of sites are available for any type vehicle with most services. You won't be sorry. If you have any ? feel free to contact me. I have visited several in 10 years.

Thanks for the input. We will probably stay in a state park or corp of engrs park relatively close to Hot Springs (15-25 miles). Does anyone have a preference of one over the other?

Kirby landing, Self Creek, Jim Wylie or Daisy State Park would be nice. They are all on Lake Greason and Darryl Morris is located at Self Creek. Enjoy your stay

You can't go wrong on any of the corps lakes. They all have nice facilities and they are in top condition.

Brady Mountain is the closest campground on Ouachita to Hot Springs, followed by Crystal Spring, Mountain Harbour, Shangri-la and then Denby and Twin Creeks. Twin Creeks is the only one that doesn't have utilities for creature comforts.

My preference is Denby. It is closed right now but will open soon. Get on the Corps national website and go to the reservation tab to see when it opens up.

Ouachita has wild shorelines except for the occasional marina. The water is very clear w/ a 15' vis most of the time. Ouachita is 40,000 acres of God's beauty and tranquility.

If you go to Ouachita, contact me and we'll try to hook up on a crappie or two. <><
