I went to Leatherwood, in Eureka, and it was beautiful. It is out of town, so you don't have all the "town crowd". There are a lot of places to hike and walk around the lake. We took the kids, and spent all day there.
There is a creek that runs into the lake at the oppisite end of the dam. There also is a trail that goes next to it. One of the best trails that I have seen. You can wade the creek, and have a lot of fun. I do think that it is the main creek that feeds the lake.
Did not try the crappie while I was there, because the wife wanted to do a lot of shopping. One thing we did do was to go to the "cat country". There is a place there that takes in lions, tigers, and other cats. They have over 100 of them. Go on the 4pm tour (runs every hour) because they feed them after that tour. You will never see anything like it. You are actually 2 feet from them when they are roaring and jumping. You will never hear anything that loud come out of a cat's mouth ever agian. We loved it, and it was worth every dime spent to take the tour.
