Thread: Greeson Is Looking Up

We finally had a decent trip on Greeson this morning. Nick started us off right with the nice white crappie in his right hand and caught several more fish including the black crappie in his left hand:

His Uncle Ricky beat him though with this 17-inch, 2-pound, 2-ounce white crappie that he is going to have mounted:

We kept 18 crappie and a pretty good goggle eye and I think everyone had a great time:

Everything was caught on Rosey Red minnows and Shiners fished from 11 to 19-feet deep on brush piles and bamboo crappie condos. The white females still had quite a few eggs but they looked like they were starting to break down. The black females were all pretty well layed out.

Can't wait to get there next weekend.

Jerry with all the rain this week just wondering how much the lake going to raise.

As of noon today the lake wasn't coming up but it probably is rising now and will come up quite a bit if Gustav keeps hanging around until Friday morning like it looks like it's going to. At one point the Weather Guessers were predicting 12 to 15-inches of rain in some parts of the state. If we get that much rain in the watershed around Greeson it will probably come up 7 to 10-feet. So far most of the rain has been fairly light and the ground was pretty dry so we weren't getting a lot of run-off. But the ground is saturated now and pretty much everything we get from here on out will run off.

How long will it take the lake to go down if it does come up 7 to 10 ft? And how bad will that mess things up, or will it?

If this mess keeps up I'll be fishing in my driveway.

We were only about 3.5-feet below full pool already so we don't need the lake to come up any. It's 6 or 8-feet higher than it usually is this time of year.

The graph shows it coming back down a little this evening after a slight rise this afternoon - Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service: Little Rock: Little Missouri River at Narrows Dam - so they are still trying to stay ahead of it. I'm sure it will scatter the fish some if it comes up more than a foot or two. If it comes up 7 to 10-feet it will be several weeks before it's back down below full pool. They need to get it down about 10-feet below full pool before the winter and spring rainy season.

Man, it's nice to see a healthy stringer of specks! I'm 40 miles from Greeson. I reckon I'll have to learn the lake in my retirement. C'mon 30 September. :D
