Exclamation New To This Whole Crappie Thing... I Need Help!

Afternoon!!! got to love this ARKANSAS weather...

I'm planning on doing some Crappie fishing this weekend... I usually only fish bass, but this past weekend I fished trout, and this weekend I want to try my luck at some crappie fishing...

I'm in Jonesboro, planning on going to either Lake Charles in Black Rock or to Lake Poinsett in Harrisburg...

If anyone knows a better location for me, or has any tips for this weekend, I could really use them!!! Thanks in advance for all your help!

I'm with kab, Lake Charles is full of crappie, seems that they don't get over 9 or 10 inches though. You are in a great part of the state for Crappie fishing. Unfortunately right now most of the better places to go near you are on the rivers, and they are high and muddy. The St. Francis river, Black River, Cache River, Languille River, Are all with in an hours drive and have excellent Crappie fishing when the water levels/clarity are right. You also have lakes like Ashbaugh and Frierson to choose from. Sorry, I have probably made the decision harder. Thats my old stomping ground, and I get excited. Good luck, and send me a pm if you want any info on any of those places.

you are about an hour and a half from horseshoe lake in crittenden county. (south from Jboro) the bite there has been fairly steady with good size fish as well.

Welcome aboard Fishin'. Here's a recent thread about crappie fishing in NEA - http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/showthread.php?t=58238 that might help some. Also, you mentioned being new to crappie fishing. If you go to my website (link below) and then go to the Informative Articles page you will find ample reading material that will help you with crappie fishing. Again, welcome aboard. Glad to see more NEA folks on the forum.
