    Default Burnt Cane

Been over in Eastern AR for the holidays visting with the family and of course lookin' for a place to snatch some slabs. Decided to give Burnt Cane (AGFC lake located just outside of Widener) a try since I done good there back in May and hadn't been back since. And well, they were right where I left 'em. Fished Friday morning and Saturday afternoon. Caught a limit of 30 each day rangin' from 3/4 to 1&1/2lb. Big fish for both days weighed 2lbs. Friday I found crappie hanging on the channel ledge about 8-10' deep over 11-12' of water. Got back out there Saturday about 11am and was just catchin' one here and there for most of the afternoon. After being sleeted on a few times, only had about 5 in the livewell at 3pm and decided to drift across the wide channel. Well, I guess that's where they had decided to move overnight. Made 3 or 4 drifts across the channel and had 30 by 5pm. Sorry no pics since I forgot the camera, but figured that y'all would like a good report anyways. I'm headed back there this coming weekend for an engagement party and to sneak in a little more crappie fishin'...and I'll be sure to take plenty of pics for y'all...:D

Must be somethin' about lakes with "Cane" in the name...

Looks like it pays to visit you family. It was raining in Shreveport the whole time you were catchin' those fish. Real nasty. I wish you would head over to Millwood and find 'em. I'm planning on fishing up there so over the next couple months and see if I can get one to mount. Seeya soon, Don

I had my perfect fishin' conditions on Fri and Sat...overcast with a light breeze. And then all that rain that y'all got headed up this way on Sunday.

I never have heard much about Millwood except that it's a good crappie lake. I'm guessing that I need to fit more time into fishing those lakes on that side of the state. Good luck on huntin' down that big 'un...What size you lookin' for?

Hey Jerry, I'll be sure to pack the camera and extra batteries in the tackle bag right now...so it's sure to be in there this weekend.

And David, I'm not too sure about a get-together on this lake. There's an adult video/novelty store at the exit off I-40...and I'd sure hate for Gooch to get caught up in some kinda crappie.com sex scandal...:p

One thing that I forgot to mention was that for the first time straight purple/white jigs (w/ nibbles from the baitpump) outproduced the rosies on Sunday. Jigs might have outproduced on Sat, but I wasn't experimenting as much.

We need to get together one of these days when you're over here CEB. I live just a few miles from Burnt Cane. I need some lessons on how to use my depthfinder----er---uh---FISHfinder!! I fish there a lot when I'm not deer hunting. What does Horseshoe look like now? Have you tried it lately?

Sounds good. I haven't been back out to Horseshoe since May. Planned to go last Sat morning, but just couldn't resist going back to Burnt Cane. Last I heard was that the water was back low again...don't know how low for sure tho. Maybe another one of our Eastern Arkies have more current info...

Ok, Patrick. Well I wasn't able to convince the guys to go to Grenada but we were able to go to Horseshoe over in AR on Monday. The water got way down and we almost didn't get the boat in much less back out, but.... after the wind blew about 15 mph for about 2 hours, it calmed down and we got some small to decent crappie, approx 40. By MS rules I would have brought home one fish, 1.5 to 1.75 crappie. I afraid to say it, but next few days does not look promising up this way.

Hey Chris were you using the multi-jig rigs like we were using at Larto. Thinking of trying that at Morgon Point.

I have a guy at work that has a camper on Millwood. Said they are about to/in the process of drawing that sucker down. (Less water = more fish!)
