    Default Lake Greeson nite stalk

I had my first night stalk on greeson last night got out on the water around 8:00pm me and some friends set up the star light off the side of the boat and sat and shot the bull for around a hour to give the light time to work. After about 20 mins there wear a swarm of minows around the light so we sat for a about 30 more min and gave more time for more minows to show up by then all you could see around the light was minows so we started to fish with minows and slip flot we tryed from 3 foot to 15 foot and never got a bit we fished for 2 hours and never got a fish.Could some one help me and let me know what i could have done wrong this is the first time i have ever night fished for crappie. We sat up right be side a top i have been catching some crappie off of in the day time so what could have went wrong.

How deep was the water you were anchored in? I usually start fishing just off the bottom and work my way to the top if I am not getting bit. Also were you fishing in the light or were you fishing in the dark water? Sometimes they are right in the light and others they are just out of the light in the dark water. Sometimes they are just not there. Don't give up keep trying them. Nightstalking is a great way to catch fish in the summer without the water lice.

I fish without floats. I usually fish with 8 rods. 4 on each side of the boat. I use 2-5 foot rods and 2-9 foot rods on each side. Staggered long short long short helps with tangles. this allow me to fish in the light and in the dark on both sides of the boat. I usually fish by myself. I fish Greers Ferry so I know about the water lice even at night. Keep trying, you may have to find a little deeper water when it really heats up. I have never been on Greeson but if you can find a ledge in about 25 foot of water that is where I would try.

Hey creekslick thanks for all your help i am gone to try a nite stalk to night in some deeper water around 20 foot deep it drops form 10 to 28 feet deep in just around 40 yard it is right on the side on the maine lake chanel right be side a big rock bank.Dose that sound like the right kind of place to find fish and how do you set up your rods when not fishing with floats. :D Hey if you ever get down this way i would be more than happy to go out on a nite stalk and see how it is done the right way i know lake greeson vear good i have lived 1/2 mile from the lake for 30 years.

Me and Gooch have been there before...I guess we have had a couple of less than desireable nightstalks on Greeson. I think all together we boated maybe 2 or 3 crappie.

But, if you stick with it and figure 'em out, you should be able to stay with 'em all summer long. As slick said, be sure to try some of that deeper water. Good luck and keep us posted...

That's some good information, I bought 2 of those green submersible lights a couple of months ago but haven't used them much. Been wanting to try them over at Greers Ferry, was over there today bass fishing and when I was loading my boat another fellow came in and showed me some nice crappie he had caught. Going to have to get back over there and try those crappie again, but going to have to change my tactics.

I have made my own lights. I have 2 that are green and 2 that are white. I usually have 1 of each on each side of the boat. When I first made them they were 4 foot long but they were hard to store in my boat so I bought 2 foot bulbs and shortened them to 2 foot.
