I have used all kinds but yes rods are designed to bend in an arch , if you grab up towards the end not much room to bend without putting a bad angle . I have swung lots of slabs with these Huckabee with no problem . No rods will hold up with a sharp bend if you load them up too much . Never lift on a sharp vertical pointed rod , let it bend , just not all on the tip . We don't carry a net , ask anyone I have fished with . Swing with steady pressure and using bigger hooks we lose less fish than most using a dip net .
