As as far as fishing, there is good trout fishing on the Little Red river, and the big lake in the area is Greers Ferry. The trout fishing in the Little Red is due to the cold water discharge from Greers Ferry.
Both my parents are from Bald Knob and I spent many summers with the grandparents fishing those Searcy-area, White County lakes after my parents moved to Little Rock in the early 80s. I probably could navigate Hurricane Lake WMA blindfolded at 10 years old.

When we got tired of that we'd head up to the family farms in Concord and catch coolers full of bluegill, often on just plain hooks.

We always stopped just outside Pangburn on 124 and tried to catch trout with corn, but not with much success. Always did better around my uncle's property near Ramsey access.

The Searcy area indeed has some great waters, just depends upon what you're anglin' for.
