What time were you getting to the launch.
I usually was one of the first boats out there last year and hate getting behind lines of people who take for ever to launch. What time are you normally launching.
This weekend I was so excited to get back to some familiar water, I couldn't sleep. I was creeping out there well before sunup. Forgot my light it was fun. I didn't hit one stump though I almost landed in the blow down right after the RR bridge. There were already a couple of boats there when I arrived. I don't know where they came from. Like I said...I was the second one launched.

The deeper water you are asking about is where I want to do some more exploring. I think that is where the photos from VegaI are from too. I have done some bream fishing on around the point with roostertails in the spring. I have seen crappie caught from one particular hole on the edge of the creek. Saw a fight there too so I have not tried it.

I may get out and explore that area. It's just that every exploratory mission that I've made to Conway has been a complete disaster. I guess that I just need to put the time in out there and learn where every stump is...:D I read in the Capps and Coleman book that they fished a tournament at Conway. Said that they found the deepest water in the lake, and by the looks of the map, it's gotta either be down by the Hwy 89 bridge or Gold Creek point.

Hey, does anyone know how much it costs to launch right there at the RR trussel? I'd hate to get out there without enough money; It seems that these days I never have cash on me (thanks to my little sweetheart).

Those are the two deepest holes I know of.
Take you about $5 and that will get you launched and some minners. The launch is $2.

CEB -- Don is right. The deepest part of Conway is the channel area north of the 89 bridge. I've only fished gold creek a couple of times and did ok both times, but there was so many people in the creek and the cove...it was tough.

Over the years in the spring and in the fall I've done well on the east side of the lake in the cypress trees and in the log jams along the shore fishing minnows 6-8 feet deep. The depth averages around 8 to 9 feet in the area. Usually fish tree to tree and stump to stump. Some years I've been lucking and found areas of sunken logs that criss cross that will consistently hold fish for weeks on end.

If you have a map, the area is called Duck Blind.

I've friends who seem to do well consistently in the Pierce Creek area in brush along the bank near the Arkla dock. I've never fished that area, but keep hearing the stories.
