Default Minners Vs Jigs... And the winner was

I got to witness jigs out catch minners yesterday. Not saying anything other than "I witnessed it on this one occasion".

Yesterday afternoon, from off the pier at Overcup landing, I watched as two gentlemen were fishing side by side and pitching to the same brush top, under a cork, set to similar (if not exact) depths. One gentleman was using a Bobby Garland bait, the other was using minnows. The Bobby Garland bait caught fish, after fish, after fish while the minnow was fruitless. By fruitless, I mean for the :20-:25 minutes that I watched the Bobby Garland probably caught 12 or more fish and the minnow caught 0.

That goes to show Bobby Garland baits are better that a man with live bait in a bucket.
All men are created equal, some work harder in the preseason.

    The minners were probably stale.

Evidently the guy using the minners was stupid, to see the guy next to him catch a crappie every two minutes while you were there, and not start using jigs, or just maybe he didn't have any jigs....which was also stupid ....but maybe he was just stupid....
Nothing against minner fisherman, I'll use what ever the crappie want, I'm not that hung-up on one bait....

I like to use minnows sometimes. But often as not I can do as well or better with jigs. But one thing about it....if you don't have the right jig and presentation then you have no chance of out fishing minnows.

Were they guaranteed to catch fish or die trying ? I'd return them to the bait shop .
