Usually when the spillway is open, the bite is on the best for me.

We lived in Jonesboro several years ago and have fished Old Town a lot. Have a good friend that fished it last week and only caught six. At times, on old town you can cover a lot of water and only catch fish In two or three spots.

Fish were scattered mostly males..water temps mid 60s but never got on em good.Wind was 25+ from daylight till I left so that made it that much harder to fish the trees good. Will get over there again next weekend I hope!

Wish I would have known you guys were going to be there.....we were down visiting my bro/sis in law in Helena for the week and I tried (key word is tried) to fish Old Town Thursday and Saturday. Wind was brutal both days. I had no idea where or how to fish it so I tried the south end Thursday. It was very muddy but I spider rigged it and only managed two cats and a yellow bass. After lunch I moved to the north end and tried the trees for a while but between fighting the wind (25-30 mph) and the yoyo's, I didn't have any luck. Like mentioned above the yoyo's in the trees were thick!!! Most I talked to only had a fish or two to speak of. Talked to a couple of the locals that said the bite was much better the couple days before I got there (just my luck). Tried again on Saturday morning but with the wind and cold front it was tough again to try and keep boat on track. There was also a bass tourny going on Saturday so lots of the areas I was going to try were covered up with boats. I hope to try it again sometime but being by myself and having no knowledge of the lake this trip made it pretty tough and discouraging. I wanted to drive over to Sardis a day or two but the wind kept me from there as well.

Man it woulda been nice to meet up. I always enjoy meeting up with fellow c.com members! I am debating on going bak there tomorrow and giving it another shot. Just that 10-20mph wind forecast got me on the rocks. I will let yaw know if I do.

Same here....I actually live in Missouri about 2 1/2 hrs from there but my brother/sister in-law live there in Helena. We are down there quite a bit so if you live close by maybe we could hit a spot somewhere next time we are there. My brother in-law loves to go but they farm and he is usually tied up during fishing season.
