You said it. I enjoyed just scouting around. I have never been there before. Man I wished I would have remembered to bring that GPS thingy I talked myself into buying. I did find some promising brush piles. I feel like I am starting all over again without getting to fish Conway this fall.

That is exactly what I told my wife when we were leaving church on Sunday. That cool cloudy day sure would have gave me more confidence. Seems like my last four or five fishing trips have been bluebird days. I am glad I didn't try today though.

DR...I agree. Not fishing Conway this fall is weird. As I mentioned earlier, I just started fishing the Little Maumelle earlier this year. You can navigate several miles up river into cypress thickets etc. It's really beautiful. CEB has done a good job and graciously shared a lot of information about fishing the mouth and lower part of the river. I'm told...and assume it's true...by a handful of folks I've talked to the past couple of weeks who have fished it for years that as far as crappie go it's really a winter fishery. They say the crappie move out of the Little Maumelle to the Arkansas during the spring and summer and begin to return up river late October through April. We caught several nice crappie up river back in March and April, but I've not caught a one since except in that area at the mouth of the river and the very few we've caught recently have been on the small side. But they do eat.

But there are beautiful days my wife and I have just meander up and and meandered back and hated it when it was time to go.

I have a Tracker panfisher stick steer. Sometimes I wished I would have bought the crappie 175 for the room it has. But, I sure have enjoyed not having to go from one end of the boat to the other too. I don't know which way I would go now. I bought a toon boat this summer. That eliminated the room problem. But this years 175 sure is a beautiful boat. I think I would stick with a Tracker for the service that Tony gives me at Bradford. If I lived in Hot Springs I would have to give Trader Bills a shot. I sure got a good deal on a trailer for the toon there.

I have yet to see the perfect boat, and given the resources, I dont think I could invent the perfect boat. I have only shopped for and bought two. Each time I looked at several dozen and did a lot of research.
My first was a Tracker Pro-16 and it served me well. Next was the All Fish. It was a hard choice between the Pro Crappie 175 and the All Fish. There were a couple of deciding factors that led me to the All Fish. First is the fact that I have a 10 year old that likes to utilize as much space as possible. (Except for Momma's space in the back, thats off limits!) The second is that my wife's mom has a place on Greers Ferry and the bigger boat makes us feel a lot safer. We don't do much fishing there, but a lot of riding.
It is a modified-V and talk about a smooth ride! It takes a little longer to plane out than I would like, and at slower speeds the bow stands a little too high, but we really like it. Even at 18' I still take it every place I took the 16 footer.
That being said, If not for the fact that we are on big water a lot, I may have opted for the 175, but am very happy with the choice we made.
But I really wish I had a stable of boats to choose from depending on where I was going on a particular day!!!

How many of yall fish out of flat bottom type boat? One of mine is a 1452 with a 40hp Yamaha tiller. I love it. I had Ketcher sheet metal do my floor and sides and put in a live well that works well. They also put me together a pole holder for spider rigging. They can fix up your rig. They do all the boat work for the AR Game and Fish.

Hey CEB, I think you started something here. Again I wanted to think you for sharing with me some of your spots down at the river. Lookin forward to goin again. Hopin with can get a time that maybe a few of us can hook up and visit and maybe put out some more condos.

As I stated in a previous post to ceb, I dont think there is any such thing as a perfect boat. I too have used Ketcher's to fabricate pieces for my last boat when I needed to change it up from the way I bought it, and will attest to their knowledge and craftmanship when it comes to customizing boats.

You remember me telling you about the 1442 that I fished out of all my life. I like the jon boats because they get you a little bit closer to the water. I've also seen many times that the guy in the flatbottom outfishes the guy in the $20,000.
