    Default Minn Kota repair work

I'm gonna try to switch my Minn Kota 5 speed bow mount Edge to a variable speed. Minn Kota says all I need to do is replace the momentary and 5 speed switch in the pedal with a variable speed control board. They recommended I have it done by an authorized Minn Kota service person. What is the name of the trolling motor shop behind Bradford Marine in Sherwood? Or is it so easy even a cave man or a retired lawyer can do it! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you get this to work, pleae post the part numbers, price, and how hard( or easy) it was to do. I have a 5 speed Minn Kota that I would like to convert.

Okay, guys, here's the deal. I just talked to the guy at Nife Marine in Sherwood (Nife Marine, 4100 Rixie Road, Sherwood, AR 72117, 501-835-2929) and he said the conversion could in fact be done. The bad news is the part needed to make the conversion (variable speed control board) is about $200.00 and it would run an estimated $65.00 to $120.00 in labor, or an estimated total of as much as $325.00. He quite candidly said I ought to take that money and put some more with it and buy a new trolling motor with variable speed. I'm inclined to agree. Figure I'll just make do with the 5 speed and get on and off to try to maintain a near constant speed for now. Just wanted to pass this on to those of you who said you'd like to know.

Alright, here's an update of this deal! Talked to the Minn Kota folks again by email and they said the simplest way to do this would be to order Part No. 2884051 directly from them (cost $190.00 plus shipping which estimated $10.00 to $11.00) and put it in myself. They said it was a kit containing everything that would be needed to make the conversion, complete with easy step by step, color coded instructions. So maybe a cave man or a retired lawyer might be able to do it! I may do this. If I mess it up can one of you electronic wizards bail me out and help me?

Jerry I found a couple of these on Ebay and they were just under $200. I bet you can do this in 10 minutes. There is a picture of the instructions that you can kind of see.
