Jerry I found a couple of these on Ebay and they were just under $200. I bet you can do this in 10 minutes. There is a picture of the instructions that you can kind of see.

The digital camera is your friend. Before you disassemble, take plenty of pics and make notes, if needed, of the way the wiring and assembly was done originally. Then unpackage the new parts and go crazy. Remember, if in doubt, always cut the red wire...or maybe it is the blue wire.

You can do this. I've got confidence.

You got that right dude! I take a photo of a light bulb before I change it and put a new one in so I'll be able to see how it goes back in! Seriously, I have done that many times doing projects like changing a ballast in a fluorescent light, or changing out a light switch. It works. At least the house hasn't caught fire ......yet! I think I'm just gonna go ahead and give it a try. Cheaper than a new trolling motor with variable speed. I'll post if I'm successful. If you don't hear from me, you'll know I'm enjoying my new Minn Kota Maxxum!

I need to be able to control speed and keep it constant slow trolling. With the 5 speed I can't do that. I can only go whatever speed the different speeds go.

Have you priced the motor you really want and tried to sell your old one? Good luck if you make the conversion.

What I really want is a Terrova with IPilot, maybe IPilot Link. But I don't want to spend that kind of money and put it on the dingy I have now. I'll get that trolling motor when I'm able to upgrade my boat. Until then, I'll just spend as little as I can to get a TM that will do what I want it to do. Good idea, though!

Watch Craigslist and newspaper , might find some looking to upgrade . I would stay with a foot control unless you plan to strictly spiderrig.

Somebody else told me that about that kind of motor not being good if you were jigging stumps or visible cover. Said you need a foot control. But don't they have a foot control that will work on that motor?
