Myself and my brother have guided hunting and fishing trips in Alakska's Prince William sound (a Northern Rain forest) for more than 10 years and for a sustained rain the only thing that is 100% waterproof is rubber. I have customers come with all the most expensive rain gear made and after a full day of rain they ALWAYS use my extra pairs of Helley Hansen rain gear.

But isn't it hot and sweaty down here in the South with our normal humidity? Something that breathes is almost a necessity, in my opinion. I could see that in the late fall and winter, and possibly early Spring, but not the rest of the time.
My wife keeps saying I never listen to her....... or something like that!

normally our rains here in Ark dont last all day, just normally quick hard showers so goretex is ok but if you need to keep yourself really dryfor a extended period or for hypothermia protection then rubber is the only way to go.

Cabela dry plus works for a while for me. I agree, if your life depends on it use rubber.

X2 Helley Hansen. If it's hot weather, i put all my important stuff in a drylock case and just get wet from the rain. Keep a dry change of clothes for the ride home.
