Thread: Gnats...

rub vanilla flavoring over exposed skin. it doesn't take the more expensive extract. i keep a bottle in my truck, boats, turkey vest in the spring.

I keep a bottle of pure vanilla in my boat and it works. I just hate when they sneak one in on ya!

I don't like gnats either. Pesky little critters.

turtle will tell you to use ben gay or something like that maybe absorbine jr but it stinks. some say skin so soft. i've never used it. probably 50 years ago i came off the st. francis river from fishing and an old river rat was at the landing. i was swatting at the gnats and cussing them and he said, "vanilla flavoring." i asked again and he said it was the only thing he'd found to keep them off. with it's sweet smell you would think it would attract them. the ole river rat knew what he was talking bout.

Better watch where you use that Ben-Gay. Johnny Cash got the Ben-Gay and Preparation-H mixed up one time. That's how he wrote the song " Burning Ring of Fire". Hehehe

I've heard too that other stuff works. My dad worked for a spice company for many years and I keep plenty of vanilla!!

Glad they don't bother me. Only annoying when you breathe one in every now and then.
