I'm leaving next week going to greeson for the week on the 12th of May, and was gonna see if anyone has been fishing Greeson, and if you could give some general info about what the fish patterns were, what water temps have been this week & what water clarity is right now. I know usually the spawn would be over but with unusually cool temps just wondering what the crappie staging is like. Any info is appreciated.
thanks Iron man. I did check Jerry's site & the last trip report is from 4/7. I was hoping for something a little more recent. When i did an internal search for recent posts by Jerry, I came up empty. don't know whats up with that. I'll PM Jerry & see if he will respond.
I have spent two weeks over there this spring of which I probably fished the biggest part of six days and I just could not find the right combination. I found plenty of cover but just could not pick up the bite like I wanted to. I did manage to get five good ones before the rain set in a week ago Friday.
Deep, clear lake, Indian says fishin no good on those man could starve to death! Not going to say there's none over there but you'll have your work cut out for you i'm sure. If I was going to travel to a lake I don't think it would be that one but that's just me, good luck though.
Never fished it but should be a fun week! Good luck!!

Oh, it's a pretty lake and I'm sure the crappie that are there will taste better than other places because of the cool, clear, deep water but tough to catch also. My buddy made a bass fishing trip over there this past Spring and caught a 5LB fish and I almost didn't believe him. He was like I almost didn't believe it either from that lake.
Long as your going I'll tell ya about the brush I know about over there. They used to dump cane up that big cove headed towards Arrowhead Point to the shallow side towards the North side of the cove by Hwy 70. Most of it seemed like it would be way too shallow any other time of the year except spawn time though. Just not a lot of deeper brush that we've ever found over there to fish around. Now here's the kicker out of all the AR lakes they claim to have the best crappie fishing rated way up there. Now i'm not saying there better than say a Conway or Nimrod but that lake was ranked highly for whatever reason???? Course out of the top US lakes Hamelton of all lakes was in the top 50 crappie lakes and I sure don't believe that either cause out of numerous trips I don't think I ever boated a single crappie over there, not just one!
Like grandpa used to say, "Well you can't believe everything you hear".
i've been on it before & had success, even been to a couple crappie camps a few yrs ago, but haven't been since last fall when the water was way down. I've got a few brushpiles marked on GPS, and last fall most of the cane was out of the water in the coves. I'm still hoping to hear from Jerry, since he guides on the lake a lot. I appreciate all the info though guys.
We spent 15 years fishing it annually in late April, and tore them up. Big Black Crappie that would tear up your pole. Constant limits. I don't remember when we quit, but it was getting bad towards the end. I do remember listening to the OKC Bombing on the radio at Jim Wylie campground, so whatever year that was.
Used to be, every cove was ringed with buckbrush. Every piece of buckbrush had a bite on it. Some had a lot of bites! But the COE drew down the lake, or the Power Company, or someone.........whoever is in control.........and it stayed down long enough that all the beautiful buckbrush died.........and now there's no crappie structure other than what the two guides have manually sunk. We went back a few years ago for a 'nostalgia' trip, and stayed in some expensive cabins close to Hwy 70 bridge (the east/first one)........and did poorly. We'd camp at Jim Wylie......beautiful spot, restaurant used to be right by the bridge, not many folks fished it, we had it to ourselves. If it got bad we'd make a drive to Gillham or Dierks for a day. Great memories.
But all in the past, sadly.
