Not that I know of but... Neil Young did come to Mayflower to check out the oil spill. Why is it that celebrities think they are experts in areas they know very little on? Who knows, maybe Neil Young is an expert on oil spill remediation!

Is it true that this tar sands stuff doesn't float and therefore you wouldn't see it "floating"? just curious, think i read that somewhere and they were saying that's why you just can't run around sucking it off the surface like you would conventional crude? I could be wrong, it's happened once!

I have read that the tar sands oil does not fload like conventional oil. Exxon has been claiming that this is not tar sands oil that it is a slightly different formula called something like heavy wabaska (sp?) oil. I am at home and I dont have the exact name in front of me. It all has to do with the specific gravity of the compound. Most oils float and supposedly this wabaska (sp?) does as well. The EPA took a sample drectly from the pipe to have analyzed. We have yet to see the results. I know that the oil that I have seen on sight was floating.

I thought that pipe carried diluted bitumen(dilbit) which is tar sands diluted with a bunch of nasty crap to make it flow, thats what the claim was at first.

I have heard it referred to that as well. EPA should be providing the detailed on what exactly this is. Exxon may be saying that it is one thing but it may be something else. We shall see.

The EPA just sent us a report on the sample of oil taken from the pipe. It is not tar sands oil, which sinks. It actually has a specific gravity that allows it to float. This is good news. Still no evidence of contamination in the lake.
We will begin conducting angler surveys to get at what is the economic impact/loss to Lake Conway due to the oil spill. In the survey there are questions that allude to the oil spill and other economic questions. This will allow us to calculate an estimate on how much money this spill has impacted Lake Conway. Also in the survey are questions about potential crappie regulation changes in Lake Conway. So if you are asked for an interview, please take a few minutes of your time to give us some accurate and honest answers.

Unfortunately this type of survey must be done in person to be valid. Most of the survey only pertains to people who have fishing on Lake Conway recently. The other part of the survey that will be looking at potential crappie regulation changes has to be asked to every type of crappie angler on Lake Conway. If I were to just make an online survey only, not everyones voice would be heard and we would be cattering to a specific user group. This is why it also has to be done in person. We will be spending around 6 days a week at different locations around the lake and differnt times. This will ensure that the data collected is random and valid. I may try to put together a seperate online survey that forum members can participate in. I'm not sure how this is done but I know people who do. If I get this done I will post a link on this forum. Unfortunately this type of survey would not carry as much weight as the randomom survey will. I certainly dont mind posting a copy of the in person random survey for forum memebers to view or the results of the survey when it is complete.
