Vertical Jiggin

i too enjoy using a single pole and jig. i usually tip my jig with a minnow, but will use just a jig if they are hitting good. i fish 25-100 acre farm reservoirs mostly, and depth is rarely over 4-5 feet near brush or banks. seems i always start using a 3 color slater's jig (orange/black/char), then change to a blk/blu/white if they won't bite my initial offering. i was going tomorrow but the rain may kill those plans. i'll go thursday once the rain clears. when i fish the brush i use a 12' jon boat and usually skull from place to place. favorite pole is a 11' wally marshall and 8lb line. brush fishing is the best way to really enjoy crappie fishing, and you can't beat that thump. i do enjoy spider rigging in my big boat, but not as much as brush fishing. good luck to you all.

I just want to say thanks to CMJ for giving me a head start at Spring camp. Trust me this boy knows how to catch fish. Well I spent the last 18 year jig fishing exclusively and about a year ago I started trying spider rigging. I haven't had a lot of luck with it but it has taught me a lot about crappie. It's hard to beat that thump, but I am beginning to enjoy a version of both fishing styles that I call spider jigging. I ease along in my kayak until I find a nice top on a ledge or flat and pick up a rod and jig the fish from it and take um to my house. I like to stay open to what ever style fits the lake I'm fishing.

Thanks Mike. I enjoyed hanging out with you at Dardanelle. Folks, this guy is tough, he had that kayak in the middle of the big D with 15-20 mph wind gusts!!

I do love jigging brush or any other bottom structure along a drop off. A buddy of mine took me out on Dardanelle last week and introduced me to his method which was dragging a Roadrunner over the tops and the perimeter of the tops and we had real good success. We sometimes would get the thump and sometimes just a heavy resistance on the end of the line. Spent a lot of time casting and reeling and a lot of moving around. I would rather have slowed down and relaxed a little and dropped a jig into some of those brush piles. Next time I go I will take my jigging rod and intruduce him to verticle jigging.

I like it close and personnel. One on one with a good sensitive jigging pole. Casting is also on my list of favorites.
I wasn't going to mention xrings thrashing yesterday, or my thrashing the day before.

I (was) a bass fishermen loved to fish jig's and bass tubes so naturally the crappie tube and jig fits right in southern pro,mid south crappie tubes and the (crappie magnets),ozark rods,bass pro blackmax crapie jig poles Nimrod,meatgetter,crappie pro thanks love the jigging pole and the thump!! Thats all I have done sense fall crappie camp.Live for the thump!!!

Jiggin' is where its at!! It's hard to beat the "thump". I was introduced to spider rigging this winter , I will say it was a lot of fun.

It all figures in which method is fun for you and if your out for fun or just to fill freezer space. I jig fish 100 % and verticle jig with a jig pole 99 % of the time. That thump is one of the best feelings in fishing.
