since everyone has a gps have many folks learned to pinpoint a submerged top by triangulaion? i still do and find it to be more accurate. Sit on your spot and look off and line up 2 points. The old burned tree might align with the church steeple. now look in another direct and find two other objects aligned. The radio tower lines up with sycamore on the bank. Next time you are looking for the spot motor to where the steeple and burned tree align and stay on that course til you get to where the tower and sycamore line up. There's your spot.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and
a gun the goes bang when it is supposed to go click.

I find I can pull in close to my spots many times but nothing beats my GPS.

If you fish 50-11 lakes your gps is better. But not more accurate. Fish 1-2 lakes and not as many waypoints and triangulation can be more accurate. It will put you on the exact spot. Gps has built in degree of error.

When you are on a big lake like ouachita, greers ferry"miller bottoms" cove creek",Bull shoals, its hard to do too far to line anything up. The GPS and Help form Nimrod"(GPS class) has made these areas possible too fish. Before gps almost impossible to line back up!!! The GPS and the crappie alabama rig has made fishing off the bank and out in open water possible!!!Just Wednesday we were fishing under the birds "gulls" found them in 50' of water.Went to another spot no fish returned to the first spot. With out the gps could not have done it.Found the area with GPS pitched the crappie rig in their found the hump and brush. Droped our marker started fishing. Thanks Nimrod you made our fishing alot eaiser!!!!

I use triangulation to locate my humminbird with gps , then I prefer to let it take over lol...
Cant do the triangulation method myself but can get close. My hard drive cant remember 2000 brush piles. Side imaging will find it when gps slightly off.
Easy to forget that lots of folks have to get by without fancy gadgets. Some have to be resourceful and get by cheap. Unfortunately not me. I have to have any new gimmick.

Triangulation is still necassary when fishing lakes with a big level fluctuation. It could be 10 lower than when you marked your spot. The satelights still think you are 10 feet up in the air. I use GPS to get me in the area. But, the brush pile will never be where it is supposed to be if there has been a level fluctuation.
