    Default Why at dark

I have seen over and over you'll say about how the fish bite at dark or the bite get hot at dark. How come? How come the bite will pick up in the late afternoon to dark 30? Is the just a winter thing or dose this happen all the time. Is it the sun heat and the cool hit that course it. Or is it the pressure drops at dusk so much it turn the bite on so much. What do you think how come this happens?

If you notice.. All critters are more active first thing in the morning and late evenings... Although, sometimes all day.

I believe the moon phase plays a part.. I used to study the astro chart and compare the bite... There is indeed something to it.

Also, the lake is much quieter and calmer at night. No boats out running around.

Gindog, if the fish are anything like me, they don't want to go to bed without supper.

but all joking aside, IMO the bait gets more active at this time and it starts a natural predatory reaction in crappie and bass the same. Fish really just do a couple of things on a regular basis, eat, and spawn, with eating being the most common thing they do.

My thoughts only, but in the early spring, the sun has more time to warm up the water, and at dark the water is getting pretty warm. So warm water, active fish.

Yep I get hunger about 6:00 my self. "bait gets more active at this time and it starts a natural predatory reaction in crappie" This could be the oxygen in the water becoming lighter with more air/oxygen in the water that would course fish to reaction maybe. Oxygen make a lot of thing move or get better as in humans.
It been said on here that fish feed 2 time a day and I could see that happen.

joe I can see how the moon phase could be just part of it.

I go back to the question, How come at dark? Why not at 2pm or 9am? I think we all fished and the bite pick up at dark.

Gindog, that's a hard question in all seriousness, if I had the answer to the question, I would be fishing professionally and would not have a full time job. It really is just about anyone's guess as to why.

Dont overthink it. At least you know that they bite at those times. The "why" will come with experience and TOW.

It changes... Sometimes every day sometimes every month...

Right now on Conway, the bite is on at dark and shortly after....
It will not stay like that much longer.. I assume...
    It constantly changes...

You are correct. The summer bite on Conway seems to be best during the heat of the day. I am looking forward to the change. Im going to try to not throw any poles or tackle in the lake this year!!
