Folks I can't take it anymore! I have to speak my mind!

I have listened to old timers ***** and moan my whole life about how the AGFC has ruined Lake Conway!
    I don't see it...
It is a fairly simple task to catch a limit of crappie most any time, year round (winter, spring, summer, fall) on the lake! I catch thousands a year and some humdingers at that!
If this lake was any better I wouldn't know what to do!

    Just my two cents!

Matt - we all very much appreciate your service and willingness to provide feedback on matters close to our hearts such as this as we understand this is not in your job description. You have been a gentleman and spoken without reserve at the same time and it's apparent you too want to improve the fishery to the highest plausible level. Please let us know what we can do in the future to help you and your staff.

Matt, thank you very much for returning my phone call. I truly enjoyed talking with you. You are obviously very, very knowledgable about the condition of central Arkansas lakes and streams and the fish population within those waters. I found you to be very interested and dedicated to improving fishing for all to enjoy. My hat is off to you!

This has been an eye opening thread for me, a guy that has only fished Conway a couple time. I appreciate the opinions and replies but I am more happy that, at least in this case, there is somebody in a position of responsability willing to step up and be willing to answer questions and publicly put their information out there.

A question for someone with more local knowledge about Lake Conway than I. Being new to the area, one of the first things I did was find the water management plan for the lake. While I'm no expert, I can certainly tell that lake level management goals as outlined in the water management plan seem to be, at best, put there for policy not practice. I understood that the plan allowed for water to be drawndown in the event of potential flooding ( I get that) and to accomodate duck hunters in season (I get that). I thought that the GOAL of the water management plan beyond those two criteria was to maintain the level at 262 msl the remainder of the time. My question is - am I correct or have I read the management plan incorrectly. Thanks for the time, forum and patience for my question. I have many more. LOL.

Smackwater Jack, the goal of the water management plan is to maintain the water level at 262 feet msl from November 15th to March 15th and at 263 feet msl the rest of the year (March 15th to November 15th).
Lately we have been inundated with calls about the water level managment on Lake Conway. Matt Hroton, the District 10 Lake Manager, wrote a an informative story for the Log Cabin Democrat that explains water level management on Lake Conwway and some of the related issuses. Here is the link to the story. Water level a concern at Lake Conway | TheCabin.net - Conway, Arkansas

Thanks for the reply D10. I read the article and found it to be very interesting. I'm anxious to see the results of the FTN study later this year as mentioned in the article. Thanks again!

I have caught a few here and there, but never any numbers. I have seen some slabs come out of there in the spring. It is a pretty decent Bass lake though.
