I pefer hardwood stakes over bamboo poles cause they last much longer. I do use some bamboo but like to use full length bamboo with the leaves on it. Check out our bucket lid boo we built in the past. Anything will work if there is nothing there. Don't over do it guys, save your back for fishing.
