Thread: Trolling battery?

I used welding wire from the battery (back of the boat) to the front. Works great. However, couldn't you also use heavy duty battery cables also? Wouldn't they be cheaper than wire purchased from Cabelas, etc.?

I buy wire in bulk spools. Quality Battery Cable wire is good if you can get it long enough.

Before I read any of the other posts, Interstate batterys are hard to beat! They ain't that much more expensive and in my book they compare to Optima but at a fraction of that cost at just over $100 where the Optima's will run you closer to $200 for a deep cell. I had a buddy to buy a new boat a few years ago and he kept it for 5 years and never changed a battery. He looked at them and they were all Interstates.

Those Walmart specials will get you about a year and that's it. I have a buddy who always buys walmart, keep the receipt and returns them for a free battery before the year warranty is up. I'd just rather get the better ones to begin with so I don't have to mess with it every year.

Interstate owns Optima. The big Optima cost 250-275.

He's right, I was shocked to see it myself but if you go on the Interstate website you'll see Optima's as well. Same quality in my book just at a cheaper more manageable price. Now to add to what others have said I've never tried the gold cart batteries so I can't speak for them but they may be a better option.
