We're gonna be that direction just a little before camp. Jerkin' a hunnert crappies may be just what the doctor ordered. I should be practiced up a little more than before, but I still ain't no expert.

As a long time minnow guy, I've got to go with creekslick on this one. I've fished with both pretty hard during the hottest months of this summer, including fishing over a light with minnows at night, and the crankbaits were far more productive. As far as cost goes, if you are willing to double back to try to retrieve hung up crankbaits and employ a lure knocker in doing so, I've had trips where I only lost two, one or even none. I'm fishing on a tight budget, so such measures are a necessity when trolling crankbaits. Ultimately though the minnows are probably cheaper, just not as effective, at least during these most recent months.

Why not try trolling jigs ? I have given some Southern Pro Umbrella Tubes with 1/8 oz leadheads inside to some trollers and they are hooked. Sure is cheaper than cranks. Trolled (long lined) on 8 lb test line at 4/10 mph by gps they are deadly on Nimrod.
