I guess someone had to write some rules. I didn't know we needed any.
But, how much time are you supposed to spend trying to retreive a hung up crankbait? Do you relate it to how much you earn to how much the bait cost. Example....If you earn say $30 per hour, a $5 bait is worth 6 minuets. But, if you earn $5 per hour, is it worth a whole hour?
What about all of the cuss words that spew out of our potty mouths when this happens? Specially when you run over the cord and lose your plug knocker too?

I'm glad you asked the "Crankbait Guru" those questions. First I must clarify the value of your time. Since time on the water is not "normal work time" for the most of us, I place the value of my time at fishing guide value which runs from approximately $60 per hour to $120 per hour. If on that particular day, you are not catching many fish, you place your guide value at $60 per hour (1 dollar per minute) so for a $5 crankbait, you can spend 5 minutes. If, however you are lighting them up, you place your "guide value at $120 per hour ($2 dollars per minute), so for a $5 crankbait, you can spend 2.5 minutes which consists of a couple tugs on the line and a breakoff if it doesn't come free. The dollar amount per hour of your regular job does not apply to anything concerning cranks, since we always buy as many as we can hide from the spouse whether we need them or not.

The above does not apply if the hung crankbait is the last one of what they have been hitting that day. In that case, if after 1 hour of trying to free the hot crank with the knocker, it is then ok to dial 911 and ask for assistance. If the 911 operator is a crankbait fisher, they will not hesitate to send help.

Cursing while dealing with a crankbait, while being a natural response is something that I have not personally had to deal with. To find the answer to this question, I went and asked the preacher what a person could do to curb this response to a crankbait hang up. He suggested that for every curse word uttered, an extra $20 be placed in the plate on Sunday. By doing this, a normal crankbait hang up could cost as little as $45 including the crank, while an advanced hang up, with multiple cranks, in the wind, could run as much as $1248 dollars with the odd amount due to the partial expletives uttered while getting them free. Realizing the additional costs of crankbait hangups with expletives verses hangups with expletives deleted will temper the free flung foul language frenzy.

While this works well, don't be surprised to catch the Preacher in the middle of the night fraying the line on your plug knocker. When the preacher is asked later by the congregation about how the bills got miraculously paid, he can simply reply "I frayed for a financial miracle".

DP, need I remind you of rule 5-B?

You need to consider not only the cost of the bait when determining how long to allot for retrieval, but also, one must take into consideration the color of the lure, because the blue with the silver belly,(e.g.) its sold out in every store, cause RCC and Creekslick have been telling everybody and their brother what they caught em on, and you can only get them off the internet.

p.s. When you look for em on Ebay, and the store that has em is SLICKWHEAT Lures, well, you'll see what I'm talking about.
