Default what to do after crappie spawn

Here is what I start doing after the crappie spawn on my home lake. I have a hard time chasing the crappie on my lake, because it's so shallow. I hit the cypress trees we have, but can't always find them. I found these bigmouths on a rock dyke in about 3-4 ft of water. biggest one weighed 4lbs. 8oz. did a skillet release on these boys. The 2nd pic is 4lbs.10oz. caught the same day, in the same place. I was using a square bill crankbait in shad color grey/white. booyah!!

for all of those "catch & release boys", the biggest 4 pounder got released, but the other one we had to fillet out with his friends. I apologize to Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Hank Parker & all the other bass pro's. I needed some fish for the freezer, and bass is 2nd on my favorite list after crappie.

    Where is your "home" lake?

You certainly have plenty of great choices in your area.

    Very Nice!
We have been smoking the bass here on brown rabbit strip leeches. I can't wait until they start hitting adult dragonflies and damselflies. That's when the real fun starts! As far as I am concerned there is nothing like it in the world and I have bass fished all kinds of ways.

My home lake is Mound lake, behind the toltec mounds state park, 9 miles outside of England. It is a private lake, with a locked gate. It's only about 100 acres, and right now, still dangerously low. we usually have about 6 ft of water this time of year in the deepest spots, but still haven't managed to get back to full pool. The developer of this neighborhood had to bring in a relift pump to pump up the lake 6 weeks ago, because we had some fish die on a little pond that is fed by the lake. The pond controls the spillway, and we had a stinkin' mess on our hands. anyway, we are about 3 ft right now. we still need a lot of rain to get my cypress knees under water. i've always caught most of my crappie around those knees in the spring, but they didn't have any to nest on this year. Pray for rain!! We still need it. I love our area though. very nice, quiet & peaceful.

Sounds great, if you ever need an extra skillet call me, I have plenty...and would me more then willing to share, hahaha! Great catches, I'll keep fingers crossed so your lake will see some water soon....that would not be good, sounds like a pretty good gig you got going on there. What's the gate combo? (hey...worth a shot) hahaha, thanks

Your right about Mound Lake. I've never seen it so low. My family homesteaded property around Mound Lake. I still have a lot of property in the family around it. I've got memories with my grandparents from that lake that I'll never forget.
