    Default bad day at Midway...

according to my dad. they took 4 men and 2 boats. fished every way they knew how for 6 hours and caught no good crappie. They caught a handful of smaller crappie, gills, and stripers. they talked to several other fisherman and the owner of the launch and that was the story everyone told today.

Dad said water was low; cypress and buckbrush was all in 3 fow or less and according to the men they spoke with camped there the fish have not moved onto the beds yet and are still staging out in 6 fow. WT was 74; so I was really surprised that everyone they talked to there said the fish have not spawned yet?

All the "locals" that fish there daily say 1-2 weeks and it will be hot.
no matter what I'm doing, I've got hunting or fishing on my mind...

WOW...Its hard to believe that at 74 Degrees that haven't spawned yet. Anybody else have a opinion on that

I think the water has warmed up faster than normal. I fished lake ouachita today and had a limit of blacks. My biggest to had a little egg residual but several of the others I caught were still full of eggs.

That is what the owner of the launch who has been there for 20 years told my dad, "been so warm so early, the fish just haven't spawned yet". All the fish he has been catching are full of eggs but not yet bloody. 1-2 weeks he says.

Ok then, thanks for the info. I was at Horseshoe Tuesday, and caught several full of eggs as well, but the water temp was only 68. Might have to give em a shot in a couple of weeks. Thanks again!

The water temp is nothing more than an incubator for the eggs. If the eggs hatched out now and we got a bad cold front and the water temp dropped to 55, most of the eggs/fry would die. Watch the eggs. When they lose that bright yellow look and the blood vessels burst turning the sack orange and the eggs look like mush, IT'S ON!!! Nature won't let those fish spawn too early.

Nice Info ark........I think something was up with the weather Saturday, I was fishing Horseshoe and they turned on about 30 mins-1 hour before dark. Fished all day too, deep, shallow, very shallow, piers, brush, trees, lily pads, etc....My humble conclusion was that the upper level low that stalled had em just messed up most of the day. Wind got out of the East for a major part of the day which never helps. All females that I caught were full of eggs.

Most females that we're cleaning still have bright yellow eggs. Males aren't full color yet either. Water temps already hitting 70's.
